GKRC practices give our rowers a time to come together, work hard, learn, and improve.
GKRC practices year-round.
In Spring, Summer, and Fall practices consist of mostly on-water outings, with weights, aerobic activity, ergometer, and flexibility training when we can't get out due to weather. Attendance at all practices is not required.
Winter practices include all of these fitness routines except on-water outings. Practices take place at Thompson Boat Center for on-water practices and at Glen Echo Bumper Car Pavillion for winter.
Current practice times:
Monday, Tuesday and Thursday: On the water or indoor workout (weather dependent). 5:30pm - 7:30pm.
Wednesday: On the water. 5:45 am - 7:00 am.
Saturday: On the water or indoor workout (weather dependent). 6:30am-8:30am.
Sunday: 9:00am, Exorcist Stairs.
Family helping out again!
We enjoy competing in regattas. Participation in a regatta is completely voluntary, but they are lots of fun! We typically race in 3 or more sprint races in the summer and 3 or more head races in the fall. Sprint races are 1000m and Head races are up to 5k (sometimes shorter depending on the course).
In summer we typically race in the Stonewall Regatta and Capital Sprints at Anacostia Boat House and Quaker City in Philadelphia, PA. In fall it's Head of the Potomac at TBC, Head of the Anacostia at Anacostia, Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia, and Head of the Occoquan in Sandy Run Regional Park, Fairfax Station, VA. Several of us will also travel overseas to compete in sprint distance racing at the World Masters Regatta.
